Launch of Elder Academy | Jan 20

Chi Sun has a humble tradition of inviting our neighbours to our basin meal events. This semester we are going much further to launch the Chi Sun Elder Academy programme.

The EA aims to provide elderly from our neighbourhood both the environment and experience of life-long learning. Our residents can also engage in inter-generation interactions by joining the EA as teachers and course coordinators. This is especially meaningful, because due to the civil war and WWII, many of the elderly living in our neighbourhood missed their opportunity for education. The Academy is the College’s effort to try and compensate for that.

Four courses – basic computer skills, mandarin, meditation and art classes – will take place this semester thank to the enthusiastic students and tutors who have volunteered to be teachers and coordinators. A launch event was held on Jan 20 with our partner from Kwun Lung Lau. Our Master, Professor Gabriel Leung, chatted with the elderly regarding common health problems and a Tai Chi session was conducted by the award-winning Alfred Pang, who’s a “guy fong” from Kennedy Town as well as a colleague from HKU.
